Most of the Chinese Americans, particularly in Los Angeles, have heard of the name Sherman Meng. Also, if you go  on line and Google search the words of “Feng Shui Masters” or ” Sherman Meng”, you will find comments like, “The pride of Chinese Americans”, “a legendary figure”, ” an incredible geomancer”, and so on.

Recognized for his genteel, calm and kind ways, Meng is quite well-known among the Chinese American community, especially those who live in Los Angeles. He is often referred to as the Feng Shui Master or the pride of Chinese Americans. His cultural inheritance, academic achievements, and hard work have brought him where he is today.

There are many Feng Shui masters, but few have attained overnight fame like Meng. Surely, Meng’s achievements are attributable to the guidance of his mentor Mr. Naizhao Leung who himself is an internationally renowned Feng Shui master, but his own establishment in the field and his unusual life experience are also indispensable factors. Having only begun his career less than a year ago, he has already helped many clients change and improve their lives, hence his high reputation as a Feng Shui Master in the United States. While Meng is versatile in his expertise, he also specializes in Chinese Metaphysics, the Five Elements and Eight Diagrams, Numerology, Geomancy, and Chinese Astrology. He enjoys helping people immensely and is committed to helping people achieve freedom in finance, time, and spirit.

  The Early Years

Meng began his Feng Shui studies when he was only fifteen years old. In the 1990s, he immigrated to the United States where his life fluctuated a great deal until he opened his own Feng Shui consulting firm in Los Angeles, California.

“My life was full of up and downs,” Meng says. He studied for over three decades until his mentor, Leung, announced his retirement as the Chairman of the American Council of Global Cultural Association Book of Changes. He appointed Meng as his replacement. Meng is also the vice director and secretary-general of the Association.

Meng was born in Guangzhou, the capital city of South China’s Guangdong Province. In the midst of a personal crisis, Meng decided to move on and  traveled alone to Southeast Asia where he lived in the Golden Triangle located between Thailand, Burma, and Laos. Drifting from one country to another inspired Meng a great deal. And through Feng Shui he found out that to live in the United States was his destiny.

While Meng only finished his apprenticeship less than one year ago, his unique technique induces astounding effects. He has been invited to share his influential technique in New York, Chicago, Houston, San Francisco, Sacramento, Nevada, and back in Guangdong Province.

A Theory of amalgamation of Environmental and Spiritual Feng Shui

Meng believes that changes in people’s state of mind can instantly affect their fate. He says, “Birds of a feather flock together; people of a mind fall into the same group”. What this breaks down to is that positive energy attracts positive energy (good qi) and negative energy attracts negative energy (bad qi). Thus, happy people choose the company of other happy people, while miserable people often stick together.

According to Meng, feng shui is similar to qi in that it’s formless, but strongly affects people’s destiny. Good qi promotes good fortune while bad qi brings bad luck and grievance. “A good or bad Feng Shui layout influences a person’s state of mind, which in turn influences the person’s behavior. With a good Feng Shui layout, the person feels relaxed and content and everything seems to be easier” explains Meng. Therefore, if you want to completely change your fate, the most important thing is to change your state of mind.

People have known the impact of environment upon inhabitants for a certain period of time now. Our environment directly affects our state of mind; thus affects our mood and attitude, thus affects our behavior. Through relentless efforts, Meng created his spiritual Feng Shui Theory. Now he is committed to research the environmental and spiritual Feng Shui theory. Since our state of mind is closely related to our environment, when the environment is neat and the layout is in line with the laws of the Five Elements, everything falls into place perfectly. As a result, people become open-minded, tolerant and joyful. That is Meng’s environmental and spiritual Feng Shui theory.

  Basic Knowledge of Feng Shui

As for the functions of Feng Shui, Meng says, “The Northwest side of the house is called Qian which represents the male household. Qian stands for gold in the five elements so all the furnishing in the Northwest side must compliment gold. On the other hand, the East side is called Zhen, stands for wood in the five elements and represents the eldest son in the family. So should the eldest son fall ill, the East side of the house needs to be checked to see if anything has been misplaced.

In order to promote Feng Shui and help more people, Meng uses the Nine Star theory to show us some general knowledge: Each household or office is divided into quite a few specific areas that symbolize specific aspects of one’s life such as peril, prosperity, illness, romance, gossipry, propitious people and academic, etc. Therefore, with a proper arrangement, people can avoid danger and attain wealth. Within the Feng Shui methodology, the academic star that situates in the academic area dominates the fate of literati and scholars. Having the study and the desk in a proper location facing the right direction could have a great influence on the person. Meng says that this year’s academic star falls on the south side of the house, a proper Feng Shui arrangement along with the person’s innate academic area (which can be inferred according to the birth date and birth time) well matched with certain data and the knowledge they intend to acquire, the learning efficiency can be significantly enhanced.

Another example is the propitious people area. Propitious people area vary according to birth years. You need to know where your propitious people star is in order to locate the exact area at home or in the office. When the propitious people qi is enhanced, you’ll receive tremendous help everywhere you go. Meng says simply: “if you just put up some figurines or pictures of prominent figures in that area, you’ll see immediate results”. Furthermore, to enhance prosperity, red and yellow ornaments should be placed in the South-East side (prosperity area) of the house. However if figurines or animal ornaments were misplaced in the gossipry area, there would be trouble with legal matters or ill-willed people.

The same theory applies to offices. It’s very important to locate the correct Feng Shui areas. Generally speaking, the very center of a house/room is the reference point, you can then figure out where all the areas are and arrange your house/room accordingly.  As for office desks, the size limit is two square meters.  You can use the center of the desk to figure out the different areas.

Meng adds, “In order to reap the most benefit of good Feng Shui, we need to pay attention to every detail, nothing can be overlooked”. As a Feng Shui master, he feels that it is his responsibility to make sure that every client can see results right away. “I usually call the clients to follow up. If they don’t see results, I would go back to their homes/offices to double-check their settings. A lot of times it’s because clients didn’t follow my instructions to the tee.  If they did they should see results right away!”

”Lately I have been receiving phone calls from my clients almost every day informing me good news, for they have really seen significant results.”

  A Feng Shui Genius

According to Meng, “Feng Shui has been an important component of traditional Chinese culture since ancient times. It is not only a comprehensive study of such things as geology, physiography, and hydrology but it also reflects the traditional Chinese philosophy of avoiding evil spirits and looking for propitious living environments.” And his teachings are sought after now more than ever in America. The tough economic climate is causing more and more people to seek out help. Meng helped a casino dealer double the amount of tips she was receiving each night and a bank owner was saved from a hopeless situation. Meng’s theory is that all of the things in the world follow the discipline of the five elements. The Eight Diagram Theory applies the law of the five elements to interpret and explain the phenomena happening around the world. And it is with these theories, according to Meng, that people can improve their lives. Just as the old Chinese adage says: Fortune, Feng Shui, virtue, and learning are the four components that can change one’s life. Feng Shui definitely places an important part in Chinese people’s daily lives.

  A “Decathlon” Winner

Some may assume that because Meng is a geomancer, he is merely a fortune-teller. This, in fact, is quite the mistake. An expert in Feng Shui techniques and metaphysics, Meng has studied, and is proficient in many other subjects such as guitar, chess, poetry, calligraphy, traditional Chinese medicine, martial arts, computer technology, radio, and multimedia. It’s hard to believe how one person can excel in so many areas, however, it is because of his multitude of interest and dedication to so many subjects that he excels. For example, his vast knowledge and skills helped Meng reach fame while remaining calm and rational.

“Life is short, everyone is making great efforts for their desires. Instead, people should be satisfied with their health, earning enough money to make a living, and pursuing one’s interest,” Meng says. Oftentimes, skills and interests can run on different paths for people. However, it is ideal to keep interests and skills parallel throughout life.

  Epilogue

Meng explained that according to his successive masters’ edification, a geomancer has a limited amount of time in which he can practice—approximately twenty years. After which time, the geomancer’s energy will be consumed.

Already in his short time of consulting in Feng Shui matters, Meng has rearranged layouts and taught people to use their own power to change their own states of mind and improve upon their destinies. It is clear that Meng will continue to create miracle after miracle over the next twenty years.

“Feng Shui can change living environments, enhance good moods, and move lives along smoothly,” he says.
